Students went to the main street of Noosa, Hastings Street for some fun and food.

They all met at the Noosa Heads Surf Club for a soft drink to get ready for the Hastings Street Quiz. There were four teams of three and they had just 30min to run up and down the street and complete the quiz. Only one team (Kwiryang, Savannah and Lynda) got the answers correct and won a medium size cup of the best gelato in Queensland - Massimos. The rest of the students got to taste the gelato as well but only half as much. It was a great way to end another beautiful week of TAP in Noosa.

It’s that time again to say goodbye to friends, host families and GV teachers…

They will take back home many fond memories, contacts with new friends from around the world, experience of Australian culture and most important of all… English language skills!! Good luck Jen, Cassandre, Clarisse, Capucine, Mitsuki, Louis, Thibault, Lucas, Hugo, Victor and Jean-Eloi… It was a pleasure getting to know you all!

Today students went to the famous Franks Gym to learn some boxing moves with combat expert Alistair.

Alistair started the students off with some stretches then it was straight into punching techniques, side swiping and kicking. The students really got into the boxing session and were trying their hardest to punch and kick as hard as they could. Every face was red and sweaty by the end and they all got a fantastic workout. Both the boys and girls loved it and want to go back for another round!

Another Kindai High School group has visited the Sunshine Coast this week to experience what it is like to go to school in Australia.

After being introduced to the school in assembly, the Kindai students met their SAAC buddies and participated in the school’s sports carnival as well as many other fun activities including a visit to Australia Zoo!

A few of the TAPs enjoyed a night on the town with some pizza and dancing!

Some of the TAPs from France and Reunion Island have been telling Cindy the TAP Co-Ordinator how much they love dancing so she took them out to the BistroC Cuban night to bust some moves on the dance floor. They were also treated to the best pizza in the world, Zachary’s!

Global Village Noosa not only receives individual students from all over the world but also student groups!

Kindai High School students arrived on Sunday and are having non-stop fun since they landed! They learn English in mixed classes with other international students and also participate in activities such as bingo, table tennis and other sports. It’s a great way to learn English, meet new international friends and experience Australian culture. Come and visit us at GV Noosa… we would love to meet you!

Christie from Ocean Life Education visited GV Noosa today to educate the TAP’s about various sea creatures and other fun stuff.

There were exciting and colourful sea creatures on display for students to touch and learn about. There was even a baby Shark and a gorgeous little Turtle! Students were also told about the dangerous creatures in the ocean and how to identify them. It was great to see students wanting to know more and asking questions.

Students boarded the pontoon and set course to the Noosa North Shore for some swimming and beach volleyball.

We gathered some food supplies and headed out to Noosa River steered by Captain Codie from T-Boat hire. The waters were calm and the sun was shining bright. The TAP crew ate chips and dips and drank cordial as we made our way through the channel to our destination. We arrived on our deserted sand island to find we forgot the volleyball net poles. So the male crew went hunting for sticks as the female crew gathered sun to improve their tan’s. Both parties proved a success, the volleyball net was set up and skin was golden brown. So the volleyball battle began. There were a few casualties with Cindy getting spiked in the face and Cassandre’s sprained ankle had a direct hit by the ball. But all the crew survived and the adventure ended with some swimming, shell picking and treasured memories.

Students went for a trip to Underwater World to discover what lurks beneath the water.

From deep-sea fish to lobsters, Underwater World had it all! The students enjoyed holding Star Fish and watching the seals glide through the water. The Otters seem to be very interested in the students and came out of hiding to check them out. Cassandre enjoyed patting the turtles until she read the ‘don’t touch’ sign. At least we know she is improving her english reading skills whilst studying at Global Village!

The TAP students got creative with fruit and whipped up some mean mocktails on Friday evening.

There were three teams; Monster, Rocket and Girlz Power. They each had to design and make two mocktails to wow the judge… they even had to get their own ingredients from the supermarket! The teams had an hour to blend, crush, grind, peel and squish to make their perfect mocktail. TAP activity co-ordinator Cindy had her mocktail expert mother Bluette come to GV Noosa especially to judge the TAP creations. After a taste test and an explanation about the mocktails, Bluette announced that team Rocket won the competition! They ended the night with some pizza, music and table tennis!

The TAP students were introduced to some of the Australian Reptiles for the Thursday afternoon activity.

At first everyone was a little scared to touch or go near the harmless lizards as Daniel brought them around the room for each student to take a picture or give  some reptilian love. He also educated them on why the lizards look the way they do and their names. After the fourth lizard had come around the classroom, the students seemed to be more friendly with the Aussie creatures. Then came the snakes! That was a whole different reaction! There were lots of scared faces and others who put on their brave poker face. But surprisingly all the students either touched or held at least one of the many snakes which was fantastic… just don’t try to touch or hold one in the wild!!!

Surfing Blog written by TAP Student Clarisse Renieville!

It is a beautiful afternoon in Noosa beach. My friend Cassandre is surfing very good. She stood up a very long time on the wave. And the new students are also surfing very well, especially Camille and Victor. Mimi stood up on the surfboard for the first time. I think she tried very hard today because it is her last day of surfing. Malo and little Hugo swapped boards today. Malo tried to bodyboard and little hugo tried to surfboard. I got a great noosa suntan from taking many pictures of my friends surfing. Even though I could not surf today, i was able to take in the beautiful beach, sun and to watch my friends surf.

The Noosa Heads Surf Lifesavers taught the students some surf lifesaving skills today.

Noosa Main Beach looked a like a glistening lake which was ideal conditions for the Tap’s to learn various lifesaving skills and also surf and swimming techniques. Kelly and Hugh warmed the students up with a swim which actually had the opposite effect as the water was quite cold due to the fresh breeze! Then they were taught how to save a life if someone was drowning and also some surf paddling. They all learnt a lot and enjoyed the session… but not as much as they enjoyed the hot shower afterwards!

It was a hike of a time climbing up Mt Coolum this afternoon…

After some rain on the weekend it turned out to be another great warm day in Noosa and clear conditions for a spectacular view on the top of Mt Coolum. The climb up may be a little tiring but the view is definitely worth it as students commented once they reached the top. There were a few students who said the classic movie line, “I won’t make it… you go on without me!”. Well they at least made it three-quarters of the way. Enough to take in the view and appreciate their efforts. It was a quick climb and sprint back down with their legs getting a great workout. Now for a leg massage…

Noosa experienced some rain for the first time since the TAP’s arrived…

Due to the weather, instead of a bbq by the river the TAP students performed the ancient Noosa art of ‘friday arvo bevies and munchies at the surfie’. It was a little cold by the water so the students warmed up with a hot chocolate then ate some comfort food of nachos, wedges and calamari and washed it down with jugs of soft drink. They also had a little presentation with Director of Junior Programs Kiyo who gave out an awesome award to Mimi and best surfing award to Jon. It was a perfect way to end the week while enjoying the scenery of a perfect storm…

The weather has been perfect for the TAP surfing program for 2011.

All the students learnt to stand on the board very quicky and have been improving their technique a little each day. They will be pro’s by the time they get home!

TAP students went to the park nearby Global Village for a session with Bushlab Didjeridu.

Scott amazed the students with his didjeridu skills then taught them the history of this ancient Aboriginal musical instrument. The students then received their own didjeridu and were taught how to play and also the art of breathing to get the different sounds. All the students managed to play the various sounds and Jen seemed to be a natural. They really enjoyed the afternoon and said that Scott was very entertaining and a gifted musician.

The TAP students are learning a lot and love their class.

The TAP students are mixed into four different classes depending on their level of English. They are all interacting with the older students and making new friends. They are writing in a diary each day about their experience at Global Village Noosa.

Taiwanese student Mimi wrote:
Today is my first day to go to English class. My teacher’s name is Robert. He is a good teacher. I can understand what he talks about. He is very humorous, I like his games. Afternoon, we went kayaking, it’s tired but very exciting! And after we came back to school, teacher Kiyo drove me home, because I got lost. I feel grateful for what she did for me.

Today all TAPs came together for an afternoon of surfing at Noosa Main Beach.

The tide may have been a little flat but spirits were high. The TAP surfing students were ready in minutes and headed straight into the water to catch as many waves as possible whilst the other TAP received their first learn to surf lesson. The newbies were having fun using the surf board as body boards which in the surfing world is outcast but they still had a great time and some even stood up.. well for a split second… but to them it still counted as a surf!

The TAP students went to Nomads Backpackers today for an afternoon of sand volleyball.

The rounds started on a fast pace today. Mimi and Jen practised their digs and serves whilst everyone else got warmed up. It was three on three action and the teams both put up a fair fight with one team losing by only 2 points each game. It was time to turn the scales and play a battle of the sexes. Two boys versus four girls had the boys winning both games due to the girls running all over the court chasing each others balls. Then the boys had a rest as they had won enough and gave the girls time to play a few matches together. After around 8 games the activity ended with a doubles game of pool at KBs. There were lots of laughs and fun. They can’t wait to go back again!

TAP Students went for a relaxing stroll in the Noosa National Park this afternoon.

For most students it was their first time visiting Noosa National Park. The water was crystal clear and calm which gave the park a serene feel. They walked from the park entrance around the beach coves to Hells Gate and back through the Tanglewood Track which is mostly lush rainforest. There were a few rest stops on the way due to Cassandre’s sprained ankle and other students who needed to catch their breath. The students are slowly getting use to the Noosa way of life and learning to enjoy a long walk. Can’t wait to see how they go climbing Mt Coolum next week…

TAP students ventured into the Sunshine Coast mountains today to visit Kondalilla Falls.

After getting lost through the hills of Mapleton they finally made it to the entrance of Kondalilla Falls. The students were eager to see the rainforest, waterfall and Lea and Baptiste were eager to swim in the rock pool. They started walking down the track to the waterfall. They trekked down.. and down… and down… till the rainforest hid the sunlight and they were truly amongst the nature of the forest. Then all of a sudden… a clearing and there was the beautiful waterfall, rockpools and ferns that looked like a scene from a fairytale. They hung out for a while and soaked up the natural vibes before heading up… and up… and up… back to the entrance. Mikel tried to Tarzan his way back up but that plan failed. We hope Mikel and Fahad will be ok tomorrow after drinking the untreated water and Mimi’s feet recover from the blisters!

TAP students were given a tennis lesson today to learn the basic swings and rules of the game.

It was a slow start for the girls with balls flying out of the court interrupting the lesson either side. Meanwhile the boys were straight into it playing doubles and being taught how to perfect their game amidst the stray balls flying in from the girls court. Mimi and Lea seemed to have more fun gathering up the stray balls than playing but still managed to learn and practice the skills to fire a backhand and start a rally. It was a hot day and the tennis ended with an ice cream and group chat before heading back to Global Village Noosa.

GV Noosa TAP students learnt how to surf this afternoon with the Noosa Learn to Surf Team.

For half the group it was their first time putting on a wetsuit and touching a surfboard but each student took to the waves like a duck to water. Goofy footed Jon seems to be a natural on the board and our lovely Lea got a wave on the first go! It was another cloud free warm day in Noosa and the waves were just small yet large enough for our beginner surfers. Watch out Kelly Slater… TAP’s have got talent!

TAP students had a relaxing afternoon kayaking around Noosa and checking out the sights from the water.

The water was smooth and clear today as the TAP students set out on double kayaks starting at Noosa Woods and taking in the scenery from there to Noosa Sound, Munna Point then looping around back to Noosa Woods. They stopped for a rest in a sandy bank in the middle of the Noosa River and spotted a sting ray nestled in the sand which jumped out and startled them all. I think the students will sleep well tonight!

The first of our Teen Activity Program students are in Byron this week – and loving it!

“Byron Bay, and Australia are so far away its like a dream. It’s the perfect place to spend my holidays. I am improving my English and my surfing!”

Miyako from Japan, Jessica from Switzerland and Tibot & Coco from Paris are enjoying morning English lessons and afternoon surfing fun!

Today GV Noosa had their first intake of TAP students for the season and Noosa welcomed them with another perfect sunny day.

TAP students from Spain, France, Switzerland and Taiwan enjoyed their first day of GV Noosa with a local tour of the area. They started off with a mini trek to Mount Timbeerwah were there are 360 degree views of the Sunshine Coast followed by a spot of spotting wild kangaroos on the outskirts of Tewantin. They managed to see around 10 kangaroos including a mother with a baby joey in her pouch. They then proceeded to Noosa River, Hastings St, Noosa Spit, Noosa National Park, Laguna Outlook and finally Sunshine Beach. It was a perfect start to the TAP season with plenty more adventures to come. Stay tuned…
