TAP Noosa - Week 6: Nature Walk, Sand Sculptures & Aussie BBQs
Week 6 of TAP Noosa was packed with sunshine, adventure, and creativity as students immersed themselves in nature and Aussie culture. From scenic hikes and beach games to hands-on learning experiences and artistic challenges, each day brought something new and exciting. Here's a look back at the highlights from our unforgettable week in this coastal paradise.
Monday - Noosa National Park Walk
We started the week immersed in nature with a scenic walk through Noosa National Park. Surrounded by coastal bushland, ocean views, and the sound of waves crashing below, students followed the trail while spotting wildlife and soaking in the beauty of the area. It was a peaceful and refreshing way to connect with the natural side of Noosa.

Tuesday - Sand Sculpture Competition
Creativity took centre stage on Tuesday during our sand sculpture competition. Working in teams, students built everything from sea creatures to castles — some even added fun storytelling to their creations! The beach was buzzing with imagination, and the judges were impressed (and occasionally hilarious). It was a fantastic day of fun and teamwork.
Wednesday – HQ Zoo & Shopping at Noosa Plaza

On Wednesday, we headed to HQ Zoo to meet some of Australia’s iconic animals. Students enjoyed up-close encounters and learned more about local wildlife and conservation. Afterwards, we took a trip to Noosa Plaza for some relaxed shopping and snacks — well-balanced day of discovery and downtime.

Thursday – Beach Tennis with a Pro!

Thursday brought a sporty twist with a beach tennis session. With the sand beneath our feet and the ocean breeze in the air, students learned techniques from a professional and had a blast rallying back and forth. It was a fun and active way to enjoy the beach while picking up some new skills.

Friday – Aussie BBQ in the Park

We wrapped up the week with a classic Aussie BBQ in one of Noosa’s beautiful local parks. Surrounded by nature and good company, students relaxed, played games, and enjoyed a delicious lunch fresh off the grill. It was the perfect way to celebrate the end of an exciting and memorable week.

Overall, week 6 in Noosa was an unforgettable blend of nature, creativity, culture, and fun. From exploring coastal trails and building sand sculptures to meeting iconic Aussie animals, learning beach tennis, and enjoying a relaxed BBQ in the park, each day offered a new way to connect, learn, and make lasting memories. It was a week full of adventure and friendship that truly captured the spirit of the TAP experience.
Byron Bay - Juniors from Hiroshima - 1 August 2025
A Spectacular Week at Lexis Byron Bay with Our Hiroshima Juniors
Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a group of 15 junior students from Hiroshima, Japan, here at Lexis Byron Bay for a fun-filled and immersive English language and cultural experience. The students stayed with local host families, giving them a unique opportunity to practice their English and experience Aussie life firsthand.

Students with their host families.

🌊 July 28th – Lighthouse Walk & Whale Spotting
After their English lessons on Monday, we set off on the iconic Cape Byron Lighthouse Walk. With stunning views all around, the highlight was definitely spotting whales in the distance – an unforgettable Byron moment for many of the students!

🥪 July 29th – Aussie Food Tasting & Slang Session
Tuesday was all about diving into Aussie culture – through food! Students joined others at Lexis for an Aussie food tasting session featuring:
- Tim Tams
- Fairy Bread
- Vegemite (a brave few tried it!)
- Lamingtons
- …and more Aussie favourites!
We also explored Aussie slang, from "arvo" (afternoon) to "no worries," and wrapped things up with a Kahoot quiz. Congrats to the winner who walked away with a full packet of Tim Tams!

🏖️ July 30th – Beach Games & Swimming
On Wednesday, we headed to the beach for some sunshine and sporty fun. Students played volleyball, soccer, and bocce , and a few brave souls took a refreshing swim in the ocean – a true Byron Bay experience!

🎨 July 31st – Boomerang Painting & Indigenous Art
Thursday’s arvo was a special one. Students learned about Australian Indigenous culture and took part in a boomerang painting workshop.
Boomerangs are traditional Aboriginal tools used for hunting, sport, and ceremony, and they carry great cultural significance. Today, they are also powerful symbols of Indigenous identity and connection to the land.
Students painted their boomerangs using dot painting, a distinctive form of Aboriginal art that uses dots and symbols to tell Dreamtime stories and express connection to Country. It was a meaningful and creative afternoon for all.

🌭 August 1st – Sausage Sizzle Celebration
We ended this spectacular week the Aussie way – with a sausage sizzle! There were smiles, sausages, and a few heartfelt goodbyes as we celebrated the end of a memorable week full of learning, laughter, and new friendships.

A big thank you to our wonderful juniors from Hiroshima for bringing such great energy to Lexis Byron Bay. We hope your week here was as unforgettable for you as it was for us – and we hope to see you back in Australia one day soon!
Lexis Perth - Teenage Activity Program - July 2025
Meet Cynthia from China
Hi I am Cynthia and I am 12 years old from China. I have spent the past 3 weeks studying at Lexis Perth as part of the Teenage Activity Program.

Why did you come to Perth?
I came to Perth because I wanted to learn English and my Dad's friend lives here.
How did you feel when you came to Perth?
When I boarded my flight to Perth, Australia, I didn’t know exactly what to expect. I had heard stories of pristine beaches, friendly locals, and world-class education, but living it would prove far more rewarding—and challenging—than I imagined. This is the first time I have left my family and my first time in an English-speaking country. I am 12 years old, and I come from the south of China. Now, in week 3 of my stay as an international student, I can confidently say that Perth has become more than just a study destination. It's become a second home.
Are you enjoying your English classes and what is the best thing about studying at Lexis?
Yes, I am loving my English classes. I am enjoying making new friends and I really like my teacher. I like it because she only uses English, which is very different from China. She also makes learning very fun; we even use a telephone in the class to play educational games which helps us learn English. In China when we study, we only listen to the teacher and write down in our books. Here at Lexis, we get to speak in English and do lots of activities to help us learn.

In the first week of my stay, there were 4 of us joining TAP. There were 2 brothers from Vietnam and a boy from Spain.
What has been your favourite activity while you have been at Lexis?
I have been very lucky to do lots of activities in my 3 weeks. Some of the activities have been visiting the Perth Zoo, Caversham Wildlife Park, Fremantle and the Fremantle Markets, AQWA at Hilary's Boat Harbour. I enjoyed tasting Aussie food - my favourite was the Lamington, but I didn't really like Vegemite. I have also been bowling, to the WA museum, Elizabeth Quay and the Bell Tower. I got a certificate at the Bell Tower and ringing the bell was very heavy! But my favourite activity was visiting the beautiful Kings Park. Kings Park is one of the world’s largest inner-city parks, offering stunning views of the Perth skyline and Swan River. It’s a peaceful escape with lush gardens, bushland trails and the spectacular Western Australian Botanic Garden, showcasing native plants and wildflowers. I really enjoyed seeing the flowers and eating yummy ice-cream!

You are living in a homestay, what has been the highlight?
I really enjoy playing with the children. There are two girls, 4 years and 5 years old. It is very different to China, as the children go to sleep at 7pm where in my home my 3-year-old brother goes to sleep at 10pm! In the evening after the girls go to bed I get to enjoy watching TV and drinking tea with my host mother and father. We do lots of things from going to the supermarket, making sushi, watching TV and drinking tea and eating chocolate!

I was also very lucky as my family took me to many places on the weekend. We visited a night market one evening, where I chose my dinner from a food truck, it was delicious. On the weekend we went to the local library and had a cookie date with my host sisters. The family also took me to Pinjarra, a town 1 hour from Perth. We had lunch there and played in the playground. Pinjarra is a charming town nestled along the banks of the Murray River, about 85 km south of Perth. Known for its rich heritage, natural beauty, and relaxed country atmosphere, Pinjarra offers a perfect blend of history and outdoor adventure

Meeting my host family was one of the scariest parts of coming to Australia—but it quickly became the most comforting. They didn’t expect perfect English or instant understanding. They just wanted me to feel safe and welcome.
If you’re a student thinking about studying in Australia, don’t be afraid of the homestay experience. It’s not just about having a place to sleep—it’s about having a second family.
Thank you to everyone at Lexis for helping me have a wonderful experience. I hope to come back to Australia one day to study again.
The next intake for TAP Perth will be July/August 2025

They are not only building friendships and confidence, but they are having a wonderful time exploring Western Australia. The students have been exploring, creating, and embracing the very best of what Perth has to offer. We have had three gorgeous students for the first two weeks and welcomed five new TAP students for week 3.
Each day has brought something new and different, from tasting Australian food, to meeting Australian animals and learning how to play the Didgeridoo. Students have used their curiosity, enthusiasm and sense of adventure to make every activity even more special.
Aussie food tasting and Australian craft
The students took a flavourful journey Down Under! Some of the delights they tasted were Vegemite on toast, lamingtons, Tim Tams, meat pies and Shapes. The lamington got the highest score, and the students decided that Vegemite wasn't to their taste!

Scitech - Perth's very own science center
Western Australia’s premier interactive science center was perfect for our curious TAP students. It was the perfect escape from the wet weather and the students enjoyed the world class planetarium.

Caversham Wildlife Park
Caversham Wildlife Park offered the TAO students a truly hands-on experience with some of Australia’s most iconic animals. From feeding kangaroos in open enclosures to cuddling koalas and meeting wombats, the park is packed with interactive encounters that delighted the students. Below is a photo of them with the famous wombat!

Kings Park
Kings Park is one of the world's largest inner-city parks, offering stunning views of the Perth skyline and Swan River. Noosa - TAP Adventures - Week 1
A First week of Fun and Adventure for our TAP students in Noosa
Noosa is the perfect place for students to explore, learn, and have a great time. This past week, we welcomed our TAP students who have enjoyed an action-packed schedule filled with unique experiences, breathtaking views, and lots of laughter. Here’s a recap of our unforgettable first week:
Monday
On Monday, we welcomed 14 students from Japan to our Teen Activity Programme: Ami, Karen, Kano, Masaki, Cafu, Taiki, Kokoro, Miki, Kotaro, Sakino, Rintaro, Ikkei, Seiichiro and Taichi.
All 14 joined our Elementary class and met our teacher, Hana, who would spend the next two weeks helping our TAPs start their English learning journey. After classes, Hana took the TAPs down to see Noosa’s stunning Main Beach and the world-famous Hastings Street for a scavenger hunt.

Tuesday
On Tuesday, after a second day of learning English, our TAPs made their way back to Main Beach to take part in some fun beach games and they got acquainted with one of Australia’s favourite sports: Cricket. They showed off their volleyball skills and played some games and dipped their toes in the sea. Having had our fill of beach fun, we headed to Hastings Street to enjoy some delicious locally made ice cream!

Wednesday
Wednesday introduced our TAPs to some of the best of Australia’s food and drinks. It’s always great fun to watch the students tear their way through Shapes, pies and sausage rolls, Vegemite, Lamingtons, Fairy Bread, Anzac biscuits and more. Australia’s food varies greatly from Japanese cuisine and the TAPs loved to sample everything, even the Vegemite!

Thursday
After class on Thursday, we were back at the beach to take part in a Surf Life Saving workshop put on for us by the Noosa Surf Club. The TAPs got to see the lifeguard’s equipment and vehicles, had a tour of the lifeguard tower and then took part in some fun games and activities in the sea. Australia’s beaches and surf can be tricky to manage and so this was a valuable session for our TAPs! After the session, we spent some time in Yo-Chi on Hastings Street and got stuck into some delicious frozen yoghurt!

Friday
To round of a great first week, our TAPs made the short trip to Noosa National Park to soak up the panoramic views of the horizon and to hunt for some Aussie creepy crawlies. We trekked through the National Park to Boiling Pot and Dolphin Point and looked out to sea for turtles and dolphins. Whilst walking, we managed to catch a glimpse of a huge goanna as well as a little curled up carpet python sleeping peacefully in the bushes.

To round off an action packed first week, we celebrated Ami, Kano, Masaki and Karen's graduation from Lexis as they were heading back to Japan!
